Gael Givet Bio
Send To Friend
Givet signed for Blackburn on loan in the January transfer window after failing to make an impression on Marseille during the start of the 2008/09 season. It was a different story at Ewood Park, with Rovers making the move permanent at the end of the campaign.
A talented, left-footed, defender, Givet has been a part of the France squad.
He began his club career with Monaco where he made over 200 appearances in a defence that contained the likes of Patrice Evra and Sebastien Squillaci.
A Champions League finalist in 2004, he moved to Marseille in 2007 and initially impressed before his future at the Stade Vélodrome was called into question after a falling-out with l'OM head coach, Belgian Eric Gerets.
Blackburn pounced and brought in the Frenchman on loan to bolster their defence in a bid to stay in the Premier League.
He made his debut in a 0-0 draw at Blackburn in the FA Cup and went on to win his place in the first team, starting 14 Premier League matches that term and impressing boss Sam Allardyce.
